Uttarakhand police have registered a case of rape and cheating against a Bajrang Dal leader in Haldwani town of Nainital district.

The complainant, 35, who is divorced and lives with her daughter, registered an FIR at Kotwali police station on Friday evening accusing Kishan Gopal Agrawal, whose Facebook page identifies him as regional deputy convener of the Bajrang Dal, of raping her on December 13, 2017, and telling her to remain silent on the false promise of marrying her.

“He befriended me in November 2017 through a common friend. He took me to his house on December 13, 2017, and raped me. Then he promised to marry me and claimed he was legally separated from his wife. Later, he told me he needed money to buy a flat before marrying me as he wouldn’t be able to live in his parents’ home after our marriage,” the complainant has told the police.

She has submitted to the police documents to back her claim that she had transferred Rs 4 lakh to Agrawal’s bank account and given him another Rs 7.35 lakh in cash to buy a house. “He bought the flat in his name and then started beating me whenever I asked him to marry me. Recently, I discovered that he had never divorced his wife,” she said.
