Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth on Thursday, ending years of speculation, announced that he will launch his own political party in January 2021, in a big morale booster to his supporters and fans.

The superstar, reassuring his brand of spiritual politics, said categorically that his party will fight the Assembly elections in 2021 and “emerge victorious”.

The Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu are due in April and May next year.

“We will win the assembly elections for sure and give honest, transparent, corruption-free, spiritual secular politics without caste, creed or religion. A wonder and miracle will happen,” the 69-year-old tweeted.

An announcement on matters connected to the party launch would be made on December 31, he said.

The superstar met the district secretaries of his ‘Rajini Makkal Mandram’ on Monday to deliberate about his political foray.

While the office-bearers expressed their opinions, he conveyed his views on the matter to them, he told reporters outside his Poes Garden residence after winding up consultations with RMM secretaries at Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam.

“They (functionaries) told me that they are with me whatever my decision may be. I will make it known by decision (on political foray) as soon as possible,” he had told reporters after the meeting.

Rajinikanth had disclosed last month that he had undergone a kidney transplant in 2016 at the United States and the doctors were against him venturing into politics amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
