Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till noon on Friday following an uproar created by the Opposition MPs, particularly the Congress members who came to the House wearing black to voice their protest against the Enforcement Directorate's questioning of their leaders.

As soon as the House met at 11 am, Speaker Om Birla made obituary references for former MP Bhim Prasad Dahal. He also marked the 77th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 and paid tributes to those who lost their lives in the two Japanese cities.

After that, the speaker started the business of the House by taking questions related to different ministries.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told Birla that he wanted to raise an issue but the speaker stuck to the business of the Question Hour.

As the speaker ignored Chowdhury's request, the Congress members trooped to the Well of the House to stage a protest.

The Congress MPs, including party chief Sonia Gandhi and former party president Rahul Gandhi, were wearing black clothes.

Sonia Gandhi even drew the attention of Rahul Gandhi to show him that she was wearing a black mask.

The NCP and DMK members supported the protesting Congress MPs.

With the sloganeering getting louder, Birla appealed to the Opposition members to return to their seats, saying their behaviour is not proper as the entire country is watching them.

The speaker said people have sent their representatives to Parliament to raise their issues but they are indulging in sloganeering.

"You do not want to discuss people's issues. You go back to your seats. If your demand is justified, I will allow you to raise your issues later. The whole country is watching. Your behaviour is not proper," he said.

However, the Opposition members ignored his plea and Birla subsequently adjourned the House till noon.
