Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the INDIA bloc had destroyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s confidence and the government was now being forced to do what the Opposition wanted.

Addressing two election rallies in Jammu’s Sangaldan and south Kashmir’s Dooru, Rahul launched a no-holds-barred attack on Modi, drawing huge applause from the gathering.

“We have finished Narendra Modi psychologically. I tell you, I sit in Parliament in front of him, he has lost all his confidence. The INDIA alliance stood up, fought unitedly and the entire confidence of the Prime Minister of India has disappeared,” Rahul told the crowd at the Sangaldan.

“Understand one thing, Narendra Modi is now scared of the people of India. A little time is left (and) we will remove Narendra Modi and the BJP from government,” he added.

The Congress leader recalled how Modi was thought to be invincible and as having a direct connection with God.

“If somebody from the Congress comes to me, like Karra sahab (Jammu and Kashmir PCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra) or Waqar (another Congress leader) comes and says that I directly talk to God, I will tell them not to say it in public even by mistake. But the country’s Prime Minister can go out and say I am non-biological and the rest of India is biological,” he said.

“In this election, God gave a direct message to Narendra Modi that you think you are talking to God but God talks to ordinary people and listens to them before acting,” Rahul said.

Rahul cited examples to prove Modi had lost his grip on power. “First Modi said
there would be no caste-based census but we insisted on it. The RSS is now saying it is right. Then they said he would bring outsiders into government through lateral entry. We said it won’t happen. The issue was raised in Parliament, pressure was built and the BJP said there won’t be any lateral entry,” he said.

At the Dooru rally, Rahul said Modi’s 56-inch chest, which he used to boast about, had disappeared.

“You see it from a distance but I sit in Parliament and can see directly. Narendra Modi’s 56-inch chest is not there. That is gone. His confidence has disappeared. Today what the Opposition wants, the government has to do,” he said.

Rahul claimed the government is run by Modi, home minister Amit Shah and their corporate friends Ambani and Adani.

“I was told not to name Modi’s corporate friends Adani and Ambani. I am using aliases like A1 and A2 for them. This government is like ‘we two, our two’ — Modi and Shah, and Ambani and Adani — these four are running the government,” he said.

The Congress leader vowed to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood that was “snatched” to benefit “the two billionaires”.

Rahul said there were several instances of Union Territories becoming states but Jammu and Kashmir was the only instance where a state had been turned into a Union Territory.

The Congress leader said he was confident of victory in the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir that the party would contest in alliance with the National Conference (NC).

One rally was also addressed by NC president Farooq Abdullah who said the government was snatching the rights of locals to benefit outsiders.

Polling to elect the 90-member Assembly will be held on September 18, 25, and October 1.
