Rahul Gandhi on Saturday announced a KG-to-PG scheme in Chhattisgarh in which education will be free for all in government schools and colleges.

Explaining the scheme, chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said there will neither be any admission fee nor tuition fee. The Chhattisgarh government has won its spurs by opening several model English-medium schools in villages.

Addressing a public rally in Kanker, Rahul said: “There are only two types of governance model. One, to work for the poor. Two, to work for the rich. There is no third model. You either help the poor and deprived sections of the society or you help the richest. Our governments work for the poor, farmers, youth and women. We have fulfilled most of the promises made in the last election. Narendra Modi works for Adani. Airports, ports, infrastructure, farms… everything goes to Adani.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also targeted the Prime Minister for helping corporate houses and waiving off loans of the defaulters. He posted on X: “ @narendramodi ji Your Govt is taking India’s Economy to ‘Defaulter Kaal’! Distributing “Muft Ki Revdis” to cronies and demolishing the savings of the common people has been your only agenda. Is it not true that dues from wilful defaulters rose by a whopping ₹100 Crore per day since March 2019? Has your Govt not written off ₹14.56 lakh crore NPAs in last 9 financial years?

He added: “Your Govt stands guilty of — Helping serious economic offenders like Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya, Jatin Mehta — loot and scoot from India! Imposing backbreaking Price Rise, plunging the savings of ordinary people, while creating monumental economic disparity! When desperate farmers cry for help, BJP refuses to waive off their loans, but when moneybag cronies want write offs, your Govt obliges in a jiffy! Come 2024, and people of India shall reply to each and every assault that you made on the Economy!”
