Rahul Gandhi has said the strife in Manipur has resulted from the politics of hate that is being propagated in the country.

“What is happening in Manipur is the result of the politics of hate,” he told a Congress election rally in Anekal, near here, on Sunday afternoon.

“Manipur is on fire, people are dying and the Prime Minister doesn’t seem to be concerned,” Rahul said, apparently alluding to how Narendra Modi has been campaigning in Karnataka for three days. Union home minister Amit Shah, too, campaigned in the state on the last day of electioneering.

“We launched the Bharat Jodo Yatra against this kind of politics. And this is our vichardhara (ideology),” Rahul said.

Rahul was on the last leg of his campaign in the state.

Rahul urged Modi to respond to the claim that a BJP candidate had been caught bragging about eliminating Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and his entire family.

“When a BJP leader talks about killing Khargeji and his family, the Prime Minister doesn’t utter a word,” Rahul said. The Congress on Saturday released an audio clip of a purported phone conversation involving BJP candidate Manikanta Rathod.

Rathod has called the clip fake. The BJP has not reacted.
