BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday asked the voters of Chhattisgarh to re-elect the Raman Singh government for a fourth-term by pressing the button of the electronic voting machine with so much anger that the “current” is felt in Italy.

“Kamal ke nishan par button jarur dabana. Button itne gusse se dabana ki button Chhattisgarh me dabana magar current Italy me lage” (Do press the lotus symbol button. Press the button with so much anger in Chhattisgarh that it generates current in Italy),” Shah told an election rally in Dhamtari of Chhattisgarh.

“Tell me, will you do it? Will you do it?” Shah roared till the crowd of BJP supporters responded with a “yes”.

Shah, the party’s star campaigner second only to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressed two rallies in Chhattisgarh and undertook one road-show in state capital Raipur.

The BJP chief spoke with visible anger against the Congress, the principal challenger in the state polls, and demanded a similar response from the crowd.

The common thread in the election speeches of Modi and Shah is a vitriolic attack targeting the Nehru-Gandhi family. Many believe the reason for the anger lies in the difficult electoral battle the incumbent BJP is facing in the state polls.

The Congress is seen to be giving the BJP a run for its money in all the three states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Slamming the Congress, Shah asked Rahul Gandhi to first give an account of what four generations of his family had done for Chhattisgarh before asking the same to the BJP. He said

one family of the Congress ruled the country for 55 years but it was left to Modi to address the basic necessities of the people.

“Rahulbaba is asking what the BJP has done for Chhattisgarh. Rahulbaba, you should tell first what four generations of your family have done for the state,” Shah said.

Raising the “ghuspaithiya (infiltrators)” issue once again, Shah said the Congress had sheltered illegal infiltrators in the country since the early 1970s, endangering the lives of Indian citizens. The Modi government now is committed to drive all of them out of the country, he added.
