The Centre has so far provided only 153 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund to address the emergency relief operations following the twin landslides at Chooralmala and Mundakkai on July 30. The Kerala government had estimated the loss at 2,219 crore.

The state Congress leadership has also decided to stage protests against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government and the Centre over the issue.

Wandoor MLA Anil Kumar, which falls under the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, told The Telegraph that Priyanka would be camping in Wayanad during the weekend and hold road shows to thank her voters.

“Priyanka will be taking up the issue of inordinate delay in the grant of central aid to Wayanad. Even though rebuilding Wayanad is the objective of the state government, she will take up the cause of the hapless people who lost their loved ones and were left homeless. She will also be focusing on agrarian issues and man-animal conflict,” Kumar said.

Priyanka’s staff members have already started scouting for an office and house in Kalpetta along the lines of Sonia Gandhi’s set-up in Rae Bareli, suggesting that Priyanka is going to focus more on her constituency unlike Rahul Gandhi who had several other responsibilities.

Congress MLAs A.P. Anil Kumar, T. Siddique and I.C. Balakrishnan, who led Priyanka’s campaign in Wayanad, have reached New Delhi where they would hand over the victory certificate of the Wayanad parliamentary by-election to Priyanka. She is scheduled to take her oath as the Lok Sabha member on Thursday.

At the meeting with Priyanka in New Delhi, the Congress leaders will decide on the next course of protests over the Wayanad issue.
