Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore a sleeveless jacket made of material recycled from plastic bottles to Parliament on Wednesday. He was seen wearing the light blue "sadri" jacket as he sat in the Rajya Sabha in the morning.
Made out of recycled PET bottles, the jacket was presented from the India Oil Corporation to the Prime Minister during India Energy Week in Bengaluru on Monday, as reported by ndtv.com.
The event was inaugurated by PM Modi, where he launched the uniforms made out of recycled plastic as part of India Oil’s ‘Unbottled’ initiative. The drive is a part of the petroleum giant’s target to phase out single-use plastic.
The uniforms are made from recycled polyester (rPET) and cotton for India Oil’s retail customer attendants and LPG delivery personnel. Under the ‘Unbottled’ initiative, India Oil intends to fulfill the requirement for non-combat uniforms for the Army, customer attendants of other oil companies, and for other institutions
The Energy Week was a mark of global significance to India’s rising status as an energy transition powerhouse. The recently launched National Green Hydrogen Mission, with an outlay of Rs 19,700 crore, will provide a scope of transition in order for India to slash its dependence on fossil fuel.
