Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to cooperate with India in dealing with the threat posed by Khalistani elements in Canada, stating that they posed a threat to the North American country too.

The Prime Minister underscored this during his bilateral meeting with Trudeau on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

According to an external affairs ministry readout, Modi conveyed India’s strong concerns about continuing anti-India activities of extremist elements in Canada, pointing out that they are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship.

“The nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. It is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats," the ministry said.
