President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday undertook a train journey from Badampahar to Rairangpur railway station in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj after inaugurating the Badampahar-Shalimar Express.
With this, she has given a message that her term as the President will usher in a new era of development for her home district.
Starting from the launching of new trains, setting up schools, creation of a new postal division, and inauguration of a skill training hub to widening of roads — all this has been done in the region in the past one year after Murmu became the President.
On Tuesday, Murmu flagged off three trains at Badampahar railway station, the nearest railway station from Murmu’s in-law’s house in Pahadpur and also from her village Uperbeda. The three trains are Badampahar-Tata Nagar Memu, Badampahar-Rourkela Weekly Express, and Badampahar-Shalimar Weekly Express. She also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of Badampahar Railway Station.
Speaking on the occasion, Murmu said: “As per history, the rail line started in 1902. It has already completed 100 years. Over the years, only one passenger train was running. Today, three trains were flagged off. I have completed only one year in office as President. But the work has been completed so fast.”
Murmu also inaugurated a new postal division at Rairangpur, the sub-divisional district headquarters, hardly 15km from her in-law’s village. “The people of this area can now avail postal services easily. The Union government is taking various initiatives for the development of tribal communities,” said Murmu.
