The Odisha government on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre for the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA).
The scheme aims to improve graduate employability and help universities transform into world-class multi-disciplinary universities by improving the curriculum, teachers’ training, equity, access and excellence in higher education.
Joining the MoU ceremony at Krushi Bhawan here, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said: "PM-USHA is an important initiative of the Centre towards implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020.”
He said: "The state will now be able to develop colleges and universities with approximate ₹500 crore to be allocated by the Centre. More than one crore students from colleges to university level will be benefitted. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi are working to ensure that Odisha’s youth are equipped and empowered with 21st-century knowledge and skill.”
The chief minister said: “The implementation of the PM-USHA speaks volumes about the double-engine BJP government. It will ensure our education system matches with the global standard."
Majhi assured that autonomy would be given to the universities and said steps were being taken for the promotion of tribal languages. “We also aim to make Odisha a developed state by 2036,” the chief minister said.
