The conduct of the National Eligibility Test, the computer-based examination to appoint college teachers, was disrupted at a centre in Jaipur on Friday after some “unscrupulous elements” switched off power supply to some rooms.
The incident happened at Nitin Girls Senior Secondary School soon after the exam had started, delaying the process. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the NET on behalf of the University Grants Commission. The test is held twice a year. In a media release, the NTA said 174 candidates had logged in by 9.15am at the centre.
“The examination was however disrupted at around 9.30am by some unscrupulous elements. The electricity supply to some of the rooms was snapped by these elements & amidst the commotion thus created, the examination had to be stopped and police had to be called in. Additional observer was also rushed to the spot to assess the situation,” the release said.
The examination finally started at 11.15am. Some candidates opted to appear in the second shift at the same centre but they were allowed to take the exam at a different centre.
The NTA said a forensic analysis of the answers submitted by the candidates would be done before declaring their results. The NTA has set up a committee to probe the matter.
No further tests will be held at the centre till the report comes.
