Chandrasekhar, 55, was posted at Salipur about 20km from Cuttack. He used to stay at a rented house at Chauliaganj in Cuttack and go to the hospital every day on his bike to attend patients.

House owner Hariprasad Mohanty, who himself is a doctor, said: “The doctor used to stay in my house on arent basis. For the last three years, he had been residing here. I have not seen a single family member coming to his house.

“My son spoken to him on Wednesday evening after he returned from the hospital. But after that no one noticed him and the house remained locked inside.”

While the landlord used to stay on the first floor, the doctor used to stay on the ground floor.

However, after a foul smell emanating from the ground floor, Mohanty informed the police on Saturday night. The police rushed to the spot and found the door locked from inside.

Later on Sunday morning in the presence of the executive magistrate, the police barged into the house and found the body lying on the bed.

Stating that Dr Chandrasekhar, an Ayush doctor, was an asthmatic patient and a chain smoker, Mohanty said: “He used to go to Salipur on his bike.

“But after he met with an accident last month, the doctor used to go to the hospital by using the Rapido bike taxi facility.”

The house owner and the police suspect that the doctor might have died because of a sudden asthmatic attack followed by cardiac arrest. The body has been sent for postmortem.

Mohanty said: “Dr Chandrasekhar had some heart ailment issues and he was undergoing treatment for that too.”

Inspector-in-charge, Chauliaganj police station, Cuttack, Sashikanta Rout told The Telegraph, “The doctor was a bachelor. We are yet to get in touch with his family members. We don’t suspect any foul play. It seems the doctor might have died because of cardiac arrest. Investigation is on.
