Police detained a passenger at the Patna airport for allegedly misbehaving with a crew member on 6E 126 Ahmedabad-Patna flight on Saturday.

The person later turned out to be mentally disturbed and undergoing treatment for it. He was travelling with a relative, who had informed the crew members about his condition and ailments beforehand.

Identified as Qamar-e-Riyaz, the person hails from Bihar's West Champaran district and works as an engineer in Hyderabad. He has gone to meet his brother in Ahmedabad.

“While returning on the flight he started behaving irrationally. He had gone to the toilet during the flight but refused to come out for a long time. The crew members had a tough time persuading him to come out. When the flight landed in Patna, he again refused to come out and kept talking over the phone. He was finally forcibly brought down from the aircraft,” airport police station inspector Vinod Peter told The Telegraph.

“We got a call from IndiGo officials and rushed to the airport. They accused him of misbehaving with the crew and handed him over to us. However, we noticed that Riyaz’s behaviour was erratic. For example, when we reached the police station, he alighted from the vehicle and started walking with his shoes on his head,” Peter added.

The relative accompanying Riyaz showed his documents and prescriptions pertaining to his medical treatment to the police and asserted that he had informed IndiGo crew members about his condition.

The airport police station inspector understood the actual situation and wondered why the passenger was accused of misbehaving with crew members when they knew about his illness.

“We have registered a complaint with regard to the incident. An investigation will be conducted and further action will be taken on the basis of its report. Riyaz is still at the police station. We have questioned him. If all is well, we will allow him to go, depending on the instruction of our seniors,” Peter said.
