The Mohan Charan Majhi government, the first-ever BJP government in Odisha, is leaving no stone unturned to give Prime Minister Narendra Modi a rousing welcome on his birthday on Tuesday.

All the schools and colleges in Bhubaneswar will remain closed on that day. The state government offices will remain closed on Tuesday during the first half of the day and open in the second half.

The Majhi government is making all-out efforts to attract nearly one lakh people, mostly women, to the Prime Minister's meeting in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. All the state BJP district functionaries and state government agencies have been communicated to facilitate the transportation of women. It would be Modi's first visit to the state after Majhi was sworn in as chief minister. During Majhi's swearing-in, Modi came to the state and assured that the Majhi government would fulfil all the promises made in the election manifesto. Sources said the Majhi government would appraise the Prime minister about its 100 days-journey in Odisha and steps taken to fulfil the promises.

On his birthday, Modi will fulfil a significant promise made by the state BJP during the election campaign in Odisha. He will transfer ₹5,000 to the women under the Subhadra scheme, an initiative that has already received applications from 60 lakh women.

The state government has announced that ₹50,000 will be credited to women's accounts over five years, with ₹10,000 being credited annually in two instalments of ₹5,000 each. Under the scheme, all eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60 will benefit. However, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is critical of the successful implementation of the scheme. An outlay of ₹55,825.00 crore has been made for this initiative.

To ensure that women receive the money in their accounts on Tuesday, the state government has credited ₹ 1 to the accounts of several women in the state as test case.

The principal Opposition, the BJD, alleged that the Majhi government has cheated the state's women and said it has failed to keep its promise of giving ₹ 50,000 in two years to women as promised in BJP's election manifesto.

Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das said: “The beneficiaries must be told about how they can utilise the ₹5000 money for their benefit and they can be self-reliant with it,” said Das.
