Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha on November 29 on a three-day visit, his longest since the formation of the new BJP government in the state.
However, the visit, which is taking place at a time when the session of the state Assembly will be in full swing, is likely to sharpen the Opposition’s attack on the government.
The winter session of the state Assembly commenced on Tuesday amid hullabaloo by the Opposition. The session will continue till December 31.
Led by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the Opposition will leave no stone unturned to put the Mohan Charan Majhi government on the mat.
Modi is scheduled to arrive on the November 29 night and he will leave the state on the afternoon of December 1. The Prime Minister’s packed schedule includes attending an all-India Conference of director-generals of police (DGPs) and inspector-generals of police in Bhubaneswar. Besides Modi, a number of dignitaries like Union home minister Amit Shah, security adviser Ajit Doval and other senior officials of the state Intelligence Bureau, director-generals of police (DGPs) of all states, RAW, NSG and SPG will attend the three-day conference.
Although the BJP has been in power for a few months only, the Opposition has no dearth of issues against the government. Among the major issues likely to be highlighted in the Assembly would be the deteriorating law-and-order situation and rising crime against women. The Opposition is certain to bring up the issue of the much-publicised assault on an army Major and his fiancee at a police station in Bhubaneswar.
The death of three tribal women after eating mango kernels in Kandhamal will also figure prominently during the session.
