Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah that the Left Democratic Front government has identified two locations in Wayanad’s Vythiri taluk to set up sustainable and disaster-resilient townships for the survivors of the July landslides.
Siddaramaiah had shot off a letter to Vijayan on December 9 reminding him about Karnataka’s offer to build 100 houses for the survivors, which had so far failed to elicit any response.
In his letter to Siddaramaiah on Friday, Vijayan informed him that the Kerala government was in the process of finalising a sponsorship framework to implement the offers that had poured in from various quarters promising land and houses for the affected families.
“The detailed sponsorship framework will ensure that all the promised offers, including that of the government of Karnataka, will be integrated into a comprehensive plan for the survivors. It is envisaged that the progress of the plan can be tracked on a real-time tracking facility,” Vijayan wrote.
The prolonged silence on the part of the Kerala government had irked Siddaramaiah, who had promised 100 houses for the families affected by the Wayanad landslides when he visited the district immediately after the tragedy.
After returning to Karnataka, he had reminded then Kerala chief secretary V. Venu and the chief minister’s office about the Karnataka government’s promise, but to no avail.
He later took to his X account to express solidarity with the affected families and “concern” over the lack of communication from the Kerala government.
