Winter holidays are synonymous with picnics and what better day than Christmas to gorge on food with friends and family while soaking up the sun.

Picnic spots across the steel city were packed with people on Wednesday. Both local residents and tourists from Bengal flocked to Dimna lake, Jubilee Park, Hudco dam and Chandil dam.

The Dimna lake looked cleaner with Jusco deploying workers to ensure that there was no trash strewn around.

The picnic spot resembled a fair with rides for children. Kids were spotted enjoying water rides and inflated jumping castles.

“We had come to Jamshedpur in 2015 and loved the scenic beauty in Dalma and Dimna. So when we were deciding on a picnic venue this year, Dimna was a unianimous choice. We plan to spend the whole day here. We will also visit Jubilee Park and Sai Temple,” said Salil Kumar Dutta, who along with a 30- member group, had come from Hooghly district.

Most picnickers said they had tried to keep away from plastic as far as possible.

“Apart from the utensils, we have come equipped with thermocol plates. But we will ensure that we keep them aside or throw them into dustbins to make it easy for the safai workers to keep the area clean,” said Sujata Mishra, a homemaker from Baharagora.

Dimna witnessed a footfall of around 5,000 while around 3,000 people visited Jubilee Park.

The district administration had beefed up security across picnic spots to keep the mischievous elements at bay.

“Besides installing CCTV cameras, we have posted cops in civil dress from Decemeber 24. This arranagement will be in place till the end of January,” city superintendent of police Subhash Chandra Jat said.
