The autopsy of the body of Mineral Area Development Authority (Mada) grade-IV employee Roshan Raut, 57, found at the Patliputra Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) garbage dump on Friday, was done on Sunday at the same hospital.

Raut was admitted to the medicine department of PMCH after he complained of abdomen pain on November 21, but his body was found in the garbage dump of the hospital on Friday. Saraidhela police, under whose jurisdiction the hospital falls, arrived at the hospital on Sunday to start an investigation into the case.

Raut, who was with the water supply division of Mada at Jamadoba treatment plant, was admitted to the hospital by his son Dhan Kumar Raut, 28. When the doctors prescribed medicines, the jobless Dhan went out to arrange money because he wasn’t carrying any. When Dhan returned to the hospital on November 22 with money, he found his father missing from the hospital. He kept searching for his father for more than a week in vain.

A Dhanbad-based social activist, Ankit Rajgarhia, saw a body in the dump on Friday and immediately posted its photograph on Twitter. No sooner did the news break, the PMCH administration shifted the body to its mortuary. Dhan arrived on Saturday and identified the body as his father.

He said: “My father was unwell for the past three months. Because of financial crunch owing to his pending salaries for over 42 months we couldn’t give him better treatment. He was admitted to the PMCH on November 21 at 2pm. Some medicines had to be procured from outside the hospital. I left him at the hospital to arrange money. When I returned, I found my father missing from the bed and the hospital employees said they had no clue. They even accused me of not taking care of my father.”

PMCH superintendent Arun Kumar Chaudhary said they did not know how a body could reach the hospital dump. “I will carry out an investigation but this is also a matter of police investigation. We suspect the involvement of outsiders,” he said.
