Opposition parties in Punjab said the quashing of FIRs against Kumar Vishwas and BJP's Tajinder Bagga by the high court was a huge embarrassment for AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and a serious indictment against the way Punjab Police was functioning under AAP's rule.

They were reacting after the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday quashed two separate FIRs registered against former AAP leader Vishwas and Bagga by the Punjab Police in April over their statements against Kejriwal.

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said this has vindicated the Congress party's stand that the AAP government was misusing police and vigilance bureau to settle scores with political opponents.

You can't run a professional force like Punjab Police as a private army , he said in a statement.

He expressed confidence that "'false cases" registered against the Congress leaders will also fall flat in the courts.

This is the time for the government to read the rulebook once again, he said

Someone must be held accountable for this, he said.

Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa said the quashing of FIRs was a huge embarrassment not only for the Bhagwant Mann government but also for his political mentor Arvind Kejriwal.

He asked CM Mann to get his act together and not run the state ''on his whims and fancies''.

The whole world knew sending senior Punjab Police officials all the way to Delhi to nab Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga was a sheer political vendetta and was orchestrated on the directions of Arvind Kejriwal to settle personal scores, said Bajwa.

Similarly in the case of Kumar Vishwas, it was only on the direction of Arvind Kejriwal the Punjab Police had registered a case against the renowned poet, he added.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema said the HC verdict has proved that Delhi CM Kejriwal allegedly indulged in vendetta politics and misused the AAP government in Punjab to fulfill its evil designs.

It has lowered the image of state police in the eyes of the nation, said Cheema in a tweet.

Punjab BJP chief Jeevan Gupta welcomed the verdict of the high court and accused the AAP government of indulging in vendetta politics against its political rivals.

Vishwas, who is a well-known poet too, was booked by the Rupnagar police in Punjab over his alleged "inflammatory statements" against Kejriwal.

Bagga was booked on the charges of making provocative statements, promoting enmity and criminal intimidation following a protest outside the Delhi residence of the Aam Aadmi Party convener for his remarks on the film 'Kashmir Files.
