The INDIA alliance on Tuesday questioned the Modi government for keeping the agenda of the special session of Parliament under wraps and expressed disappointment that the Opposition has not been consulted even once.
This was the common refrain of the INDIA parties after a meeting convened by the leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, at his residence on Tuesday to plan for the session.
Despite the disadvantageous position they have been placed in by the government, Kharge said: “We shall not be deterred in raising people’s issues, we intend to keep our focus on these.”
Asked if there was any call to boycott the session, sources said no party even made such a suggestion. The consensus was to “deliberate and debate”.
Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi is likely to write a letter to the Prime Minister, and other INDIA party leaders might follow suit.
Trinamul Congress Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien had two questions: “Where is the agenda for the session? Why is it being kept a secret? This is not how a parliamentary democracy functions.”
