Now, as per latest reports, former West Bengal Governor and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi Gopalkrishna Gandhi could be the unanimous Opposition candidate for the Presidential election. According to indiatoday.in, the erudite scholar wants some time to take a final call on it.

The Congress will however participate in the meeting despite the not-so-warm equations with Trinamul Congress.

Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Surjewala could be attending the meeting.

According to sources quoted by indiatoday.in, TRS is in no mood to share platform with Congress.

AAP added, "Will consider the issue only after the candidate for the upcoming Presidential election is declared."

The West Bengal CM landed in the national capital on Tuesday to rally support for the Opposition meeting. She met NCP supremo Sharad Pawar who was indecisive on being the Opposition nominee for the poll scheduled to be held on July 18.

Pawar however was initially reluctant to be the Opposition face and had conveyed his decision to CPM general-secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja, and NCP leaders Praful Patel and P C Chacko.

"I have been informed that Pawar will not be the Opposition face for the presidential poll, other names are under consideration," Yechury had said.

Mamata on Saturday had written to 22 Opposition leaders, requesting them to attend a meeting on June 15 convened by her in New Delhi to prepare a joint strategy for the upcoming presidential poll.
