The Odisha vigilance on Sunday arrested an additional district magistrate for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The concerned officer, Biswajit Mohapatra, is at present posted as ADM Sundergarh. The vigilance in a press release said it has found over Rs 2.48 crore fixed deposits, savings accounts and mutual funds and gold weighing 470gm in the possession of Mohapatra. It has also seized Rs 3.52 lakh cash.
“Mohapatra will be forwarded to Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar,” the vigilance said in a press release.
Getting a tip off about Mohaptra being involved in corruption and possessing assets disproportionate to his known source of income, simultaneous raids were conducted at seven places including his work place.
During the raid for the past two days, the sleuths unearthed a double storey building and flat at Bhubaneswar, 10 plots in Bhubaneswar and Jagatsinghpur.
“Verification and valuation of plots is being done. Their market value may be in crores,” the release said.
The ADM had also started a cement business recently in the name of his spouse.
“A godown with cement stocks opposite to his house at Balianta, Bhubaneswar, was unearthed. The finance wing of Odisha vigilance is carrying out valuation of cement stocks at the godown,” said the release.
The press release further said, “Chartered Accountant, Bank Consultant and Financial Wing of Odisha Vigilance are scrutinising the documents collected and seized from the house and different places of search of Biswajit Mohapatra, ADM, Sundergarh.”
