Three from Jharkhand died in the Balasore train accident on Friday, while 61 were injured.

The Jharkhand chief minister’s office informed this after a five-member team sent by chief minister Hemant Soren visited Balasore on Sunday.

While one of the deceased was yet to be identified, the rest two were from the Godda district, the CMO said, adding the state government was extending all possible help to the victims.

The team, led by the state’s labour secretary Rajesh Sharma, flew to Balasore in a helicopter on Sunday morning and spent the entire day taking stock of relief and treatment received by the victims and whether they needed any more help.

The team had, among others, Ranchi deputy commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha and Dr Ajit Kumar, a surgeon attached to Ranchi Sadar Hospital.

“We found four injured train passengers from Godda as stable and arrangements were made to transport them to their respective homes,” Dr Ajit Kumar, the only medical professional in the team, told this paper before returning from Balasore on Sunday evening.

Arrangements for transporting the bodies of the two deceased from Godda were also made, he added.

“One of the injured train passengers from the state is from Baharagora in East Singhbhum who got his femur bone fractured,” Dr Kumar further said, adding the patient preferred to be treated at the Balasore hospital which has good facilities.

The injured train passengers from Jharkhand were all paid a compensation of Rs 50,000 each by the railways, the doctor said.
