The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Thursday held “Sankirtan Satyagraha”, a unique protest in front of all the Jagannath temples across the state, demanding the opening of all the gates of the 12th century Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and opening up of the temple's treasure trove (Ratna Bhandar).
Puri Shree Jagannath Temple has four gates but devotees are allowed to enter the temple using the front door only.
The other three gates have been closed for the last three years. They were closed following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic to facilitate the construction of various beautification schemes around the temple under the Heritage Corridor plan.
