Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik has asked his ministerial colleagues to submit performance reports of their respective departments as soon as possible.
Once the reports are available, the chief minister will review the performance of each department, sources said.
The review will revolve around the commitment that the Naveen Patnaik government had made in its election manifesto in 2019. The entire review exercise will be completed by the second week of May. The Naveen Patnaik government will complete the third year of its fifth term on May 29.
Though the ruling party has won both panchayat election and urban election, comprehensively defeating the BJP and the Congress, Naveen is in no mood to take things easy. He has made it clear that he will not see any laxity on the part of ministers as far as the execution of their departmental projects is concerned.
Sources in the chief minister’s office said that the ministers have been reminded that they should work with a focus to win the confidence and love of the people. All the departments have been asked to come out with a list of their achievements as far welfare projects are concerned. “The chief minister will see how the five-T principles (team work, technology, transparency, transformation and time limit) have been implemented in their departments and whether they have been able to bring about any significant transformation or not,” said a source.
Science and technology minister Ashok Chandra Panda said: “It’s an internal review of departments. The chief minister will evaluate the works of every department. The review will give us a chance to know and understand our shortcomings.”
Sources said that the review exercise will help set the new goals for the government ahead of the general election in 2024. All the departments are likely to be asked to come out with new and innovative plans for the welfare of the people.
On the other hand, there are strong rumours that Naveen may reshuffle the ministry following the review of the performance of various departments. He is likely to drop some of the ministers whose below par performance and conduct has sullied the image of the government. “It’s the prerogative of the chief minister to whom he would drop or include in the ministry,” said a minister.
