The Odisha government has asked the authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, to rusticate the senior resident doctor who has been accused of raping two patients.
The accused, Dilbag Singh Thakur, 33, was arrested on August 13 based on a complaint following an investigation by the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack police commissionerate.
It has been alleged that the accused, working at the cardiology department of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, sexually assaulted two patients when they came to the hospital for an electrocardiogram (ECG) on August 11.
Director of medical education and training (DMET), Prof Santosh Kumar Mishra, told The Telegraph: “We have recommended the SCB Medical College and Hospital authorities to rusticate the doctor from the SCB for the heinous crime and gross irregularities done by him. He will no longer be able to pursue his studies in SCB Medical College and Hospital.”
Prof Mishra was part of the three-member committee constituted by the state government to conduct a probe into the allegations of misconduct by the resident doctor of the SCB Medical College and Hospital. The other members of the committee are superintendent, dean and principal of SCB Medical College, Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, and joint DMET, Prof Roma Rattan.
