Odisha vigilance on Tuesday arrested deputy director mines, Talcher, Dharnidhar Nayak, for allegedly possessing properties disproportionate to his known source of income.
The vigilance in a press release said: “After a thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Dharanidhar Nayak, Deputy Director of Mines, Talcher was calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets worth ₹5 crore (over 519% of his known sources of income), which he could not account for satisfactorily.”
The assets come to around ₹5 crore. The vigilance seized cash worth ₹9.85 lakh from the residence of Nayak. The property includes 11 plots including three in prime location of Bhubaneswar, one plot in Keonjhar town and the other seven plots in Telkoi town of Keonjhar district.
The vigilance also seized one double-storeyed market complex consisting of 15 shops (nine shops on the ground floor and six shops on the 1st floor) at Telkoi in Keonjhar and another Market complex building consisting of four shops adjacent to the double storeyed market complex at Telkoi, Keonjhar.
The vigilance has also found bank and insurance deposits worth ₹53.53 lakh and household articles worth ₹54.70 Lakh. “A loan of ₹75 lakh taken in 2022 was repaid in two years from suspected ill-gotten money, which is being verified,” it said.
The vigilance has conducted raids on 39 government officials during the last two months.
