The Odisha BJP unit on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the police against the social media group of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for its post on Facebook that contains derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Senior BJP leader and eminent lawyer Pitambar Acharya told reporters: “The posting was made on January 4 on BJD’s Facebook account which contains insulting, abusive, obnoxious and derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister with a motive to demean the image of the office of the Prime Minister of India and incite hatred, contempt and excites dissatisfaction towards the Government of India.”
Acharya said: “A delegation of BJP leaders went to the cyber police station and urged the inspector of the police station to register an FIR.”
The party states that they were shocked to come across a social media post on Facebook by the BJD, Odisha, with an image of Modi at the beaches of Lakshadweep with a “derogatory caption”.
In the FIR, the party states that the post was made by a Facebook public group/page named “BJD, Odisha". From the bare perusal of the contents of this Facebook group, it will be evident that the group has been created to promote, propagate and disseminate the political propaganda of the ruling party BJD.
“Such an irresponsible, reckless and derelict act in the Facebook group BJD, Odisha, which has active participation from prominent personalities from the BJD is nothing but an attempt to sabotage and demean the image of the Prime Minister of India, which calls for a harsh, stringent and immediate action by the law enforcement agencies,” the complaint reads.
