Odisha vigilance on Sunday arrested a block development officer (BDO) for amassing properties disproportionate to his known source of income.
BDO Ashwini Kumar Das is posted at Jaleswar block in Balasore. The vigilance said Das was forwarded to the court of the special judge, vigilance, Cuttack.
“…Das… was found in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5 crore (approx), which is 450 per cent higher than his known sources of income,” the vigilance said.
The properties include 24 plots in prime areas of Cuttack and Kendrapara. “Besides, a three-storey building at Kalapada, 42 Mouza, Cuttack and a brick factory worth over Rs 1.22 crore have also been found,” the vigilance said.
The vigilance has found bank and insurance deposits worth over Rs 73.91 lakh and seized cash Rs 1,70,300, gold jewellery weighing 1.028kg, silver ornaments weighing 3.632kg worth over Rs 42.57 lakh, four four-wheelers (Innova, Scorpio, MG Hector, Nano) worth Rs 40 lakh, three two-wheelers and household articles worth Rs 39.81 lakh.
