Odisha: Bauxite boost for Nalco and BARC

Collaboration with BARC has resulted in developing this unique product required by our research laboratories, says Sridhar Patra

National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), the country’s leading manufacturer and exporter of alumina, has successfully developed a Bauxite Certified Reference Material (CRM) called BARC B1201 in a joint collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

“This is the first of its kind CRM in India and 5th in the World. BARC B1201 was formally launched by M.P. Mishra, director (P&T), Nalco and Dr A.C. Sahayam, head of division, National Centre for Compositional Characterisation of Materials in the presence of senior officials of Nalco and BARC at the Nalco Research & Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar, on Friday,” a media release issued by Nalco said.

Nalco chairman and managing director, Sridhar Patra, said: “The collaboration with BARC has resulted in developing this unique product required by our research laboratories. This achievement will inspire the researchers for further innovation and will also add value to the cherished vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India Initiative.”

“This new product will act as an import substitution for use by industries, research laboratories and academic institutions as a calibration standard in evaluating analytical methods, the performance of instruments, and data quality control in routine analysis of bauxite,” the release said.

Odisha ranks second in TB measures

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday said it had been ranked second in the country in terms of the tuberculosis-control measures undertaken by the state.

Secretary of health and family welfare, Shalini Pandit, said: “In the just released India TB Report 2023, Odisha has been ranked No. 2 in the country in the elimination of TB, for the year 2022.”
