It has been alleged that the seniors had subjected three second-year students to mental torture and also beat them up. The seniors had even forced the juniors to dance. They used to switch off lights while torturing their juniors.

The victims’ parents complained to the National Medical Commission following which it asked the medical college dean, professor Suchitra Das, to investigate the matter.

Das constituted a 15-member anti-ragging committee to investigate the allegation. Following the committee’s inquiry, Das met with the authorities. Later, it was decided that all five students would be barred from entering the college hostels forever and from entering the college for six months.

The authorities have also lodged a police complaint in this regard. In the wake of the incident, the MKCG authorities decided to accommodate the second-year students in a separate hostel. “We will also keep a strict watch on the students’ movement inside the campus,” said Das.

The Berhampur police have also started an investigation against the five accused students.
