Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday threw his weight behind Arvind Kejriwal who has been summoned by the CBI, saying the BJP was worried about Opposition unity, and appeared to suggest the voters would reply.
A day before Kejriwal is to be questioned by the CBI in connection with the liquor policy case, Nitish said: “This is happening at a time when the Opposition is uniting. Kejriwal also sat with us and now action is being taken against him. When a situation of the entire Opposition coming together is arising, the people at the Centre are worried. We don’t know what all things they will do, but there will be elections, won’t there be?”
Earlier this week, Nitish and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav had met Delhi chief minister Kejriwal in the capital after holding talks with the Congress’s Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.
Nitish was on Saturday talking to reporters at Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district after becoming the first person to be counted by enumerators in the caste-based population survey in Bihar. His father was an ayurvedic medicine practitioner based in Bakhtiyarpur and Nitish was born and raised there.
Earlier in the day, while attending a conference organised by a private hospital in the state capital, Nitish had told reporters that Kejriwal would reply to all the actions against him at an appropriate time.
“People know what is happening against him. He is a well-respected person and has done much development work in his state. He will reply to all the actions that have been initiated against him at an appropriate time,” Nitish said.
“This is the reason we are making efforts to bring more and more parties together against the BJP-led government at the Centre. We will take all necessary measures to work in a united manner,” the JDU leader added.
The month-long caste-based survey will witness around 3.5 lakh enumerators and officials taking socio-economic details of around 2.88 crore families in the state.
