The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the SP, Rayagada, in connection with the death of two Russian tourists — Pavel Antov, a critic of Russian president Vladimir Putin, and Vladimir Bidenov — and sought an action taken report from the district police in four weeks.

“It is requested that an Action Taken Report be sent to the commission within 4 weeks from the date of receipt of this letter,” the order said.

The order was issued on December 30 following a petition filed by the Brahmapur-based human right activist Rabindra Mishra. Mishra had filed the petition on December 25 and it was placed before the commission on December 30.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch team continues with its investigation to find answers to the many unanswered questions over the twin deaths.

On Monday, it interrogated the staff of the ambulance which had carried the two Russian tourists to the hospital.

While Vladimir was found dead on December 22, his co-traveller Antov was spotted lying in a pool of blood on the backside of the hotel two days later.
