After Twitter, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Friday asked Facebook to take action against the Instagram profile of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for posting a photo of the family of the nine-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in southwest Delhi.

In a letter to Facebook, the commission said it has come across a video posted on Rahul’s Instagram account where the faces of the victim’s parents can be clearly seen, which is in violation of the law. Instagram is owned by Facebook.

The NCPCR asked Facebook to remove the video and take appropriate action against the Instagram profile of Rahul over violation of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and the Indian Penal Code that bar the disclosure of the identity of a child victim.

Rahul had last week met the victim’s family and assured them of support in securing justice. Later, he shared a picture of the meeting calling for justice for the child.

Hundreds of locals, including the victim’s parents, are on protest to demand capital punishment for the accused.
