Kerala health minister K.K. Shailaja on Monday confirmed that six UK returnees have tested positive for the mutant strain of Covid-19 in the state.
The minister told a media conference late on Monday that they were among the 29 returnees from the UK who had tested positive for Covid.
“We just received the confirmation from National Institute of Virology (Pune) that six of the samples have tested positive for the mutant strain detected in the UK,” she said.
Two of those who tested positive are from Kozhikode, another two are from Alappuzha, and one each from Kottayam and Kannur. While 11 samples had earlier tested negative for the new strain, the remaining results were expected in a day or two, she said.
