The parents of a young resort receptionist murdered in Uttarakhand began an indefinite dharna on Monday evening in Rishikesh against alleged “highhandedness” of the BJP government which they accused of destroying evidence.

The 19-year-old receptionist was thrown off a bridge into a canal on September 18 allegedly by resort owner Pulkit Arya, son of now-suspended BJP leader Vinod Arya, and his aides after she refused to offer massage to a “VIP guest” the next day.

The parents of the receptionist, along with over a dozen members of the Yuva Nyaya Sangharsh Samiti, a newly formed group, reached Koyalaghati Dharnasthal — a place designated for protests at Rishikesh in Dehradun district — at 8.30pm on Monday and declared that they wouldn’t leave until justice was done.

“The police and other government agencies have systematically destroyed all evidence related to the murder of our daughter. They bulldozed the resort, where she lived, without collecting any evidence. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ignored our demand to seek a CBI probe because he doesn’t want his party’s leaders to be exposed. The chief minister had falsely promised during his visit to our home 10 days after the murder that he would set up a fast-track court to expedite the case,” the father of the receptionist told reporters on Tuesday.

He added: “Some officers have told me that they would soon book me for crowd-funding to fight the court case to ensure justice for my daughter. They said they have information about the money I have received from people and would book me soon if I didn’t stop pursuing the court case.”
