Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday told party workers they needed to be more “confident” and “creative” to counter the Opposition and asked them to check out the NaMo digital app every day for positive news to spread among people.

“Every BJP worker has to be more confident and creative. The only way you can counter the false propaganda by the Opposition on every platform, social media and WhatsApp,” the Prime Minister said.

“Check out the NaMo app every day. It has all the positive news about the government. It is in 12 languages. Pick and spread them through the social media and WhatsApp.”

Modi was responding to a question while interacting with leaders and BJP activists from five Lok Sabha constituencies across five states through the Narendra Modi app, popularly called NaMo app, a digital platform he has been using to interact with party workers.

Omprakash Srivastava, a party worker from Basti Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, had asked Modi on ways to counter the Opposition’s campaign.

Elections are due in several states towards the end of this year before the parliamentary polls in the summer of 2019.

Modi asked party workers to motivate the people to buy merchandise from the NaMo app, which has started selling merchandise such as T-shirts, caps and mugs with slogans like “NaMo again”.

The Prime Minister also asked party workers to use the app to organise local events.

Modi slammed the Congress for spreading what he called lies. “They have failed as an Opposition and now their only job is to use their ecosystem to spread mud. But we have managed to deflate their lies,” he said.

“I recently inaugurated an airport in Sikkim. The Congress started spreading lies about airports in the country. They are spreading there is no funding for bullet train that is a complete lie. They are spreading fear that people’s money in banks is not safe,” he said, stressing that BJP workers needed to counter such perceptions.

Another party worker appeared to flag the discontent among the middle class. “When I talk to the middle class they ask me what the government had done for them. What should I tell them…?” the worker asked.

Even before the worker could complete his question, Modi said his government followed the policy of “sabka saath, sabka vikas” (development for all).

The Prime Minister claimed the government had given relief to the middle class in every sphere of life, saying inflation and interest rates had remained low, enabling this segment to buy homes and cars.

“Tax slabs and relief have been provided for the middle class. New airports, highways and educational institutions are being built… I can speak for hours about the things the government has done for the middle class,” Modi said.

He told the party worker that everything the government had done was available on the NaMo app. “Read them and spread (among the people).”
