Mixed turnouts in bypolls held on Thursday

Even though Mumbai saw low voter turnout, other states witnessed fairly average turnouts

Voting in the by-election to seven assembly constituencies in six states a contest symbolic of the fierce turf war between the BJP and regional parties were held on Thursday.

The polling was held in Mokama and Gopalganj assembly constituencies of Bihar, Andheri (East) of Maharashtra, Adampur of Haryana, Munugode of Telangana, Gola Gokarannath of Uttar Pradesh, and Dhamnagar of Odisha.

Authorities made elaborate arrangements for the voting.

Mumbai: A low voter turnout of 31.74 per cent was recorded on Thursday in bypoll to the Andheri (East) Assembly seat in Mumbai and polling went off peacefully, election officials said.

Haryana: A turnout of over 75 per cent was recorded in Haryana's Adampur Assembly segment in Hisar district where by-elections were held on Thursday.

Odisha: Amidst allegations of rigging and clashes between supporters of rival candidates, 66.63 per cent of 2.38 lakh voters exercised their franchise in Dhamnagar assembly by-election in Odisha.

Telangana: By-elections to seven assembly constituencies spread across six states were held on Thursday with the voter turnout ranging from 31.74 per cent in Andheri (East) of Maharashtra to 77.55 per cent in Telangana's Munugode seat.

Uttar Pradesh: A voter turnout of over 55 per cent was recorded till 5 pm in the polling in Gola Gokarannath assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh where bypolls are being held on Thursday.

Bihar: Bypolls in two assembly constituencies - Mokama and Gopalganj - passed off peacefully in Bihar on Thursday, with a provisional voter turnout of 52.38 per cent of the 6.10 lakh electorate exercising their franchise.
