Minor victims of human trafficking from the tribal state of Jharkhand continued to be rescued from Delhi. On Thursday, 14 minors including 11 girls were rescued by Delhi police in coordination with the Integrated Rehabilitation cum Resource Centre — a wing of the Jharkhand women and child development department — and boarded a train to Sahebganj in Santhal Pargana region.

“Three boys and 11 girls — all from Sahebganj district — have been counselled and they narrated harrowing tales of torture and sexual abuse. We have rescued them and they will be reaching their home district on Friday,” said Nachiketa, the nodal officer of the Integrated Rehabilitation cum Resource Centre.

All the districts have been given strict instructions by the women and child development department director Chhavi Ranjan that after rescued children are traced, it would be the responsibility of the district social welfare officer (DSWO) and child protection officer (CPO) of that district to arrange for their safe journey back to the home district and take proper steps for their rehabilitation.

“During the counselling of these children, we came to know that a 12-year-old girl was abducted by a person from her village and brought to Delhi a year ago and made to do domestic work in brothels in different areas of Delhi for a year. When the girl objected, she was forcibly taken to the red light area and sold. From there, one day she escaped by jumping out of the window and reached the police station with the help of an auto driver. Police coordinated with Jharkhand Bhawan and traced the girl’s house,” Nachiketa said.
