US First Lady Melania Trump will visit a government school in Delhi on Tuesday where she is expected to attend a “happiness” class, a special happiness programme introduced in schools by the Delhi government.
According to news agency ANI, Melania will be visiting the Sarvodaya co-ed school in Moti Bagh, which is close to the American embassy.
Confirming her visit to the school, Vasant Vihar councillor Manish Agarwal said all municipal departments were preparing for her Tuesday visit.
“We’ve got the sanitation department to clean the roads and horticulture department to prune trees and plants and get them cleaned. For the past three-four days, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation is working to improve the area,” said Agarwal.
The councillor also said water tankers were being used to get the roads and pavements cleaned.
“She should feel the warmth of atithi devo bhava (guest is god) and go back with a good impression,” he added.
Kejriwal’s name dropped
Two days ago, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s names were dropped from the invitation list of the school event. The school comes under the Delhi government.
The “happiness” programme was one of the flagship schemes launched by the Delhi government in July 2018. Its objective is to make students become self-aware and mindful, inculcate critical thinking and reflection, develop social awareness and human values and develop skills to deal with stressful and conflicting situations.
