Authorities said the blast, employing a makeshift crude substance, occurred in the proximity of a religious sanctuary and a hospital in Poonch around 10.30pm.

“Considerable alarm gripped the locality, prompting senior civil and law-enforcement officials to swiftly respond, assessing the unfolding situation. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” a spokesperson said.

Deputy inspector-general of police Tejinder Singh, who conducted an onsite visit on Wednesday, said investigative efforts were underway.

“Those responsible will face the full force of the law. We are resolved to adopt a resolute stance against such elements in the days ahead,” he said in response to queries from journalists in Poonch.

Balbir Singh, general secretary of the local Batak Mant Mohar Singh Ji Gurdwara, told The Telegraph: “The explosion occurred adjacent to the gurdwara’s perimeter, a site steeped in historical and religious significance. Traces of shrapnel are discernible on the wall and adjacent edifices.”
