Delhi chief minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail in the liquor policy case by a Delhi court on Thursday evening.
Kejriwal has been in jail since March when he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in what he described as a political vendetta by the BJP soon after the Lok Sabha polls were declared.
Kejriwal was granted bail on a bond of ₹1 lakh by a vacation bench at Rouse Avenue Court. He had briefly been granted bail by the Supreme Court earlier to campaign for the general election.
PTI reported that special judge Nyay Bindu declined the ED’s prayer to keep in abeyance the bail order for 48 hours to allow the central agency to appeal against it in a superior court. She ordered Kejriwal to appear in court whenever required and cooperate with the investigators.
On his release, Kejriwal is expected to take stock of the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha polls and urgently regroup for the Haryana and Delhi Assembly polls.
