Army Vice Chief Lieutenant General Manoj Pande was appointed as the new chief of the Indian Army who would assume charges on May 1, according to ndtv.com.
Pande will be the first from the Corps of Engineers to hold the post succeeding General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who will finish his his 28 month-tenure on April 30.
"Government has decided to appoint Lieutenant General Manoj Pande as the next chief of army staff," officials were quoted by news agency ANI.
Pande an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, was posetd at the Corps of Engineers in December 1982 and headed an engineer regiment during Operation Parakram in the Pallanwala sector.
