Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad was rushed to the hospital after he fell unconscious on Monday morning, a day after he slipped on the stairs at his residence in Patna and suffered a fracture in his right shoulder and a hairline crack in his waist.
His younger son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav drove him to Paras HMRI, a private hospital here, around 3.30am where he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Lalu’s wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi, eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav and other members of the family also followed him to the hospital.
“Our party’s national president seems to have become drowsy due to the effect of some medicines he had taken on Sunday after suffering a fall. He is being treated in the ICU,” Lalu’s close aide and RJD MLC Bhola Yadav told The Telegraph.
RJD leaders also made a beeline for the hospital to enquire about the health of their party chief. One of them said the doctors who immediately checked Lalu found that his sugar level was very high, which led to complications.
Later, Tejashwi said: “As per the doctors, he (Lalu) is stable.”
Lalu, 75, has not been keeping well for the last few years. He suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, low immunity, enlarged prostate and ailments related to heart and kidneys. His family was planning to take him to Singapore for kidney transplant later this month.
