The Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has declared his own yatra from Haryana’s Hisar on Wednesday to coincide with the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

On Tuesday, Kejriwal announced that he would start his “nationwide Make India No. 1 yatra from his birthplace Hisar” on Wednesday. No route or timetable has been shared, making it seem like an afterthought considering Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin will launch the Congress’ 150-day foot march in Kanyakumari on Wednesday.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will lead the march. On Monday, Kejriwal visited Chennai on Stalin’s invitation to inaugurate schools and an allowance scheme for girl students.

On Tuesday he said: “Our country wouldn’t have lagged behind had we built excellent schools right from the time of Independence and given the best-possible quality of education to each child…The Prime Minister has announced the ‘modernisation’ of 14,500 government schools. I fail to understand how such a small measure will be of any help in a country with 10.5 lakh government schools. If we modernise 14,500 schools every year, it will take 70-80 years to fix 10.5 lakh schools.”

He added: “If 130-crore Indians come together, no force can stop India from becoming the No. 1 country in the world. In order to make this dream a reality, I announced that I would be touring the entire country… I will be starting my tour tomorrow. The first place I will be visiting is my birthplace, which is Hisar in Haryana. I was born in a village called Siwani near Hisar.”
