Karnataka High Court on Wednesday said the uniform prescribed by schools and colleges should be followed till the disposal of the hijab case, clarifying that its interim order barring religious clothing in classrooms was for institutions that have a uniform.

“We are making it very clear that whether a degree college or a PU College, if a uniform has been prescribed, that has to be followed so long as the matter is pending before the court,” Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi told advocate Mohammed Tahir, the counsel for one of the petitioners seeking permission to wear hijab in class.

The court also made it clear that the interim order was confined to students only, and did not cover teachers.

Reporters booked

Reporters of a popular Kannada news channel have been booked for allegedly barging into the house of a hijab petitioner in Udupi and conducting a sting operation.

The FIR was registered on Tuesday against the reporters of Suvarna News for trespass, two days after Aliya Assadi posted a tweet on how they violated her family’s privacy.

According to Aliya, the reporters had posed as social workers trying to help the family but used hidden cameras to film their conversations with her grandmother and father.

Last week, the channel broadcast the news report in which the footage was used. The broadcaster is part of the Asianet group of channels.

“‘NIJATA’, (truth in Kannada) ‘Privacy’ and ‘Gaupyathe’ (privacy in Kannada) These are words to be remembered (sic) who has media ethics. But what I’m seeing today is that most of them have forgotten media ethics,” Aliya had tweeted on Sunday.
