The maternal uncle of Dr Kafeel Khan, the Gorakhpur doctor recently arrested in connection with anti-CAA protests, was shot dead on Saturday night in front of his house here, police said.
Dr Nusratullah Warsi, 55, was a property dealer. His family members have filed an FIR naming two people as accused.
The police said on Sunday that it appears to be a case of murder for monetary reasons and a property dispute.
Warsi had on Saturday evening gone to his lawyer Siraj Tariq’s house, a few metres away from his own house, and was returning home when a man shot him in his head, killing him on the spot.
Dr Kafeel Khan, who was suspended from Gorakhpur BRD Medical College after a large number of child deaths and later cleared by an inquiry of the charge of negligence, was last month arrested for allegedly making a provocative speech during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens at Aligarh Muslim University. He and was later slapped with the National Security Act.
