A day after the one-sided crackdown against the JNU students protesting fee-hike, the JNUTA demanded an inquiry into the matter by a commitee and the removal of vice-chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar.

The association secretary Surajit Mazumdar emphasised that an impartial inquiry cannot be carried out as long as Kumar remains the vice-chancellor.

The association has also written to the President Ram Nath Kovind demanding an ouster of the current VC. This is their third letter to Kovind.

The letter accused Kumar of 'connivance' with the goons who entered the campus on Sunday evening and perpetrated violence. It called the incident an 'orgy of violence' and held the VC accountable for 'administrative malfeasance'.

Bikram Aditya, a faculty member, who got caught in the fiasco recounted the incident and said that he was scared to death.

'My wife who was out on a walk was chased by mob of 20-30 people. She rushed to a room in the hostel and stayed there. I repeatedly called the registrar and the chief security officer. The mob kept banging my door, and neither took my calls,' he said.

Another professor, Atul Sood, said stones were pelted at the teachers who were addressing a peace meet near Sabarmati hostel.

The HRD ministry met officials from the JNU administration on Monday and took stock of the situation on the campus following Sunday's violence, but vice-chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar skipped the meeting.

Among those who took part in the meeting were the JNU registrar, proctor and other administration officials who briefed the ministry officials on the sequence of events that took place on the campus and the measures taken to restore normalcy.

The ministry had on Sunday sought an immediate report from JNU registrar Pramod Kumar after the violence broke out and students and teachers were attacked.

“A detailed report has been sent to the HRD Ministry about the sequence of events. The top administration officials are at the ministry to provide all details leading to present situation,” Jagadesh Kumar said.

AMU Students Coordination Committee has demanded the resignation of JNU VC Jagadesh Kumar, asking him to take “moral responsibility” for the violence at the varsity.

In a statement issued in Aligarh, the committee said reports from JNU that even medical teams going to help the injured were prevented by the mob from entering the JNU campus were shocking and only a time-bound judicial inquiry would uncover the full truth.
